When Seminole State battled Northeastern Oklahoma State A&M yesterday in the winner's bracket of the Region II Tournament, it was an all out pitching duel. NEO gave up two hits and SSC only gave up one. However it was one too many. The 11th ranked Trojans suffered the loss 2-1. Both teams combined for only three hits and 27 strikeouts.
Chase Stevens threw a no-hitter for 7.1 innings punching out 15 NEO batters and walking six. The Norses' only hit came in the eighth inning and a followup error by SSC sent two runners home. Stevens took the loss for a record of 7-3.
"Unfortunately for us we ended up on short end of the stick, but we have a resilient group of guys and we like the way the bracket sets up for the rest of the tournament," stated Assistant Coach Jason Ramos.
Cody Ferrell batted 1 for 4 and scored the lone SSC run, and Jose Olazagassti went 1 for 3.
The Trojans are back in action Saturday at noon in a "loser go home" game when they take on Connors State College. If they win the noon game they will play again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m against Eastern Oklahoma State College who has not lost in the Tournament. All games are held at Jenks High School in Jenks, OK.
