On Thursday, February 16th, the Seminole State College Women's team saw their first action of the spring season. They met up with Eastern Arizona College, and dualed at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant. Eastern Arizona finished #5 in NJCAA last spring, and going into the contest knew it would be a tough match. Doubles play proved to be tight, but SSC could only pull out one of the three doubles wins. The win came from #3 doubles, as sophomores Brittany Burrell and Ashley Coleman came out on top 8-6. The #1 doubles pair of Chloe Murphy and Taylor Spradlin held a slim 5-4 lead, but ended up losing it 8-5. Steffy Paez and Trevine Sellier also lost their doubles match at #2 by a score of 8-2. In singles action, the Trojans were only able to pull out 2 of the 6 singles victories, losing the dual overall 6-3. Winners in singles were Steffy Paez at #4 singles, and Ashley Coleman at #5 singles. Head Coach Brian Nelson said, "Even though the ladies lost this one, it could have gone either way. If we could have pulled out a couple of matches, we could have won this match. We hate to take the loss, but we know we're right there in the mix with some of the top womens' teams in the Nation. This was a tough one because it was the first match of the whole season, early in the morning, and really cold temperatures. We will take this as a learning experience, improve, and move on."
