MIDLAND, Texas - Seminole State College Trojan softball played in the Midland Classic in Texas over the weekend and dominated. The Trojans brought home five wins which elevates their overall record to 7-3.

In game one, SSC faced Western Texas Community College. The bats were blazin' with a 17-1 performance. "We played very well," said head coach Kristina McSweeney. "Our offense was able to produce and Kailee Neal, sophomore transfer from St. Gregory's University, kept us in the game by limiting their numbers."

The Trojans got a slow start to game two against Howard College of Texas. Howard produced three runs in the first inning but SSC prevailed and brought in the runs for the win. Seminole defeated Howard 9-5. Freshman Nikki Nail and sophomore Gina Mengwasser each had key homeruns. McSweeney said, "Despite the first inning, we were able to chip away at an early lead. We maintained our composure and were able to find a way to beat a good team. Again, our offense, led by Shelby Eden, helped us get a big win under our belt."

Odessa College was the third victim for SSC. Freshman pitchers Elda Isaacs and Shanna Davidson worked hard on the mound and pitched well against tough Odessa hitters. The Trojan offense was able to string hits together and get the game started with an early lead. Seminole added another win to their record.

On day two of the Classic the Trojans faced El Paso Community College and won easily 8-1 with four homeruns: Gina Mengwasser (2), Chelsea Reeves (1), and Samantha Plott (1). The last game for the weekend SSC faced Luna Community College of Las Vegas, New Mexico, winning 9-0. Kailee Neal was the winning pitcher bringing her record to 2-0.

The Trojans will take a rest until March 1st when they travel to Poteau, OK and face the Carl Albert Vikings at 2 pm.
