SEMINOLE, Oklahoma - "Well it was far from pretty but luckily we escaped with a win," said Head Coach Amy Gillespie of Tuesday's match against Brookhaven College. "We didn't play our game. Our confidence was low, and our body language on the court was very disappointing." However, Seminole State walked away with another "w" in the books winning 25-11, 13-25, 26-24, 17-25, 16-14.
The Brookhaven Bears allowed SSC to serve them off the court in the first set as the Trojans picked up seven aces. However, after the first set the Bears turned the tables around and handled SSC easily in the second set. The Trojans picked up the win in set three, but let down again in set four. "We've got to do a better job of playing solid throughout an entire match," commented Coach Gillespie. After getting down 11-14 in the fifth and final game of the match, SSC fought back with the help of three Maryna Samoday aces to pull out the 16-14 win.
"We were the better team on the court, but we were lucky to run off with a win tonight. We made 39 errors in the match, clearly we weren't focused and ready to play," said Coach Gillespie "Brookhaven is a good team and on top of it they work hard and play with heart."
Leading the offensive attack for the Trojans was Martina Straniankova with 10 kills, Aspen Healy with 8 kills, and Laisha Davis with 6 kills.
The Trojans are back in action this weekend as they take on five teams at a tournament in Vernon, Texas. The tournament kicks off for SSC at 9:00am Friday morning against Hesston College.
