This year's Seminole State College Trojan Alumni Baseball Kick-Off Banquet will feature former Minnesota Twins pitcher and past Trojan player Nick Blackburn.

The annual banquet is the kick-off event for the 2017 Trojan baseball season and is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m. inside the Enoch Kelly Haney Center on the SSC campus. Cost of the banquet is $25 per person. Sponsorships for tables of eight are $175.

The Trojans will kick-off the 2017 season on Thursday, Feb. 9 with a home game against Iowa Western at 1:30 p.m.

Blackburn, a Del City native, began his college baseball career at SSC in 2000. He was later selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 29th round of the 2001 MLB Draft. From 2007 to 2012, Blackburn played major league baseball with the Twins, helping them win 145 games. Blackburn now coaches high school baseball in Washington, Okla.

SSC Head Baseball Coach Dax Leone said, "I appreciate the fact that Nick is taking time out of his schedule to be here. It means a lot to these kids to see someone who has been successful, came through the program here and has gone on to the Major Leagues."

During the banquet, special recognition will be given to the players from the 1997 National Runner-Up Team. Frank Halter, a player for the 1997 Trojans, will speak on behalf of the team.

Also at this year's banquet, the jersey of Eric Myers (#31) will be retired. Myers was a former player, assistant coach and head coach for the Trojans. He was an NJCAA All-American pitcher for the Trojans in 1990. He passed away in 2007 at the age of 37 after a long battle with brain cancer.

"A large crowd is expected for this event. Those planning to attend should contact the College by Monday, Jan. 30 to reserve their tickets so we can plan accordingly," said Lana Reynolds, Executive Vice President.
