Twenty-three student-athletes and five athletic teams at Seminole State College were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements this year by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

The NJCAA All-Academic Student-Athlete Awards are divided into three groups based on GPA – First Team requires a 4.0 GPA, Second Team requires a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99, and Third Team requires a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79.

SSC student-athletes recognized as First Team are: Mary Grider of Durant – Softball; Michael Obi'anadiume of Land O' Lakes, Fla. – Men's Basketball; Mckyla Poponick of Selkirk Manitoba, Canada – Women's Golf; Kevin Teems of Gunter, Texas – Men's Golf; and Robbie Turner III of Stigler –Men's Golf.



Student-athletes recognized as Second Team include: Alaisha Castleberry of Del City – Women's Basketball; Breydon Daniel of Bixby – Baseball; Zahra Finnigan of Harare, Zimbabwe – Women's Tennis; Parker Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas – Men's Tennis; Chelsey Olds of Midwest City – Women's Basketball; Haley Pomplun of Choctaw – Softball; Taylor Smith of Cushing – Women's Golf; and Kaiygen Stubblefield of Arlington, Texas –Women's Basketball.

Third Team student-athletes include: Shalee Brantley of Broken Bow – Softball; Jacob Essman of Edmond – Men's Basketball; Alexis Freeman of Shawnee – Softball; Daniela Garzon of Imperial, Calif. – Softball; Jacob Goodson of Vilonia, Ark. – Baseball; Caleb Lee of Choctaw – Baseball; Tre Obregon of Sallisaw – Baseball; Karla Soto of Calexico, Calif. – Softball; Evan Speck of Newcastle – Men's Golf; and Kamy Walck of Shawnee – Women's Basketball.

Five SSC athletic teams earned an All-Academic Team award this year – an honor given to teams meeting a 3.0 GPA or higher, as a group. The following teams were recognized: Men's Golf – 3.44 GPA; Women's Basketball – 3.21 GPA; Women's Golf – 3.17 GPA; Softball – 3.26 GPA; and Women's Tennis – 3.27 GPA.
