[Men's Basketball] Trojans Lose at the Buzzer

SEMINOLE, Oklahoma - The Seminole State Trojans lost a tough one last night against Northern Oklahoma College of Enid. The Trojans led most of the game even by as much as 17 points but a last second shot left SSC with disappointment. The Jets stole the win 68-67.

Seminole shot 50% from the field for the second straight game but unfortunately was not able to get the win over visiting NOC-Enid. Turnovers played a large part in the loss as the Trojans turned the ball over 23 times for the game. However, turnovers and poor free throw shooting (13 of 28) gave a good NOC-Enid team the opportunity they needed and they took advantage and climbed back into the game. The Trojans led by one point with four seconds remaining before NOC-Enid's Xavier McClish went three-fourths of the court and laid the ball off the glass as time expired for the game winning basket 68-67. Darius Bryson led Seminole State with 23 points and Kendall Parks added 14 points.

[Women's Basketball] Belles Downed by the Jets

SEMINOLE, Oklahoma - The Seminole State College Belles hosted the Jets of Northern Oklahoma College of Enid. The Jets are number one in the OCAC conference and the Belles are at number two. NOC-Enid is also ranked number 8 in the NJCAA National Poll. The Belles fought hard for the entire 20 minutes of play but came up short when the buzzer sounded, 77-65. SSC was 10-21 from the free shot line which could have made up the difference along with a few missed buckets under the basket. Enid shot 74% from the free throw line and was consistent on scoring. Leading the scoring once again for the Belles was Oulaymatou Coulibaly with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

[Women's Basketball] Belles Upset by NOC-Tonkawa

TONKAWA, Oklahoma - Despite winning their first match-up with Northern Oklahoma College of Tonkawa in a stomping nineteen point victory in December, the Seminole State College Belles were not able to pull off the sweep as they lost 80-64 on Thursday. "We didn't play inspired," said Head Coach Rita Story-Schell. "We wasted a nine point second half lead with poor defense and failed to attack when they pressured us in the second half." The Belles started off to quick lead with great intensity. After key players Ea Coulibaly and Jaquitta Dever got into foul trouble Northern was able to cut the lead to four, 30-26, at the half. The Mavericks came out of the locker room with a huge run for which the Belles did not have an answer.

TONKAWA, Oklahoma - The Seminole State Trojans lost a closely contested game to Northern Oklahoma College on Thursday. After a competitive first half, the Trojans found themselves up by 3 points after the first twenty minutes of play. The Mavericks were able to get the eight point gain in the second half to come up with the win, with a final score of 68-66.

"It was heartbreaking for us to squander away the lead down the stretch and allow them to get back in the game and beat us in the last minute," said Head Coach Thomas Mills. Seminole shot 50% from the field for the game but unfortunately turnovers plagued the Trojans and canceled out their good shooting night. SSC held Northern to only 39% shooting from the field but the Mavericks went 17 of 21 from the free throw line and only committed 15 turnovers compared to Seminole's 23 turnovers. Seminole led by as much as 9 in the second half but struggled to get stops late in the game which allowed for Northern to get back into the game. The Mavs had 10 more field goal attempts than the Trojans, due to turnovers, which was a catalyst to the home team victory.

WILBURTON, Oklahoma -

Going into the night's contest the Seminole State Trojans knew they had a tough game ahead of them, facing Eastern Oklahoma State College with a record of 18-2. Despite their stiff competition, the Trojans put up a strong fight. The Trojans entered half time down by six before ultimately falling 56-53. "Just like the first time we played them, we came up short at either end of the floor that could have won the game for us," said Head Coach Thomas Mills.

The Trojans had a slim 24-21 lead at halftime. Both teams struggled to find any rhythm offensively in the first half, Seminole shot 27% and Eastern shot 25% from the field and both teams also had double digit turnovers. The Trojans and the Mountaineers shot the ball better in the second half from the field, but Eastern was able to get to the free throw line 22 times and convert 13 attempts compared to Seminole who went 3 for 8 from the foul line in the second half.

WILBURTON, Oklahoma - The Seminole State Women's Basketball team went on the road Monday and picked up another conference win. This time the defeat was dealt to Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton 62-58. "Eastern is a tough place to play," said Head Coach Rita Story-Schell. "It feels good to come out with the win, I am proud of the Belles for their hard work." Three players led the way scoring double digits for the Belles: Jaquitta Dever and Brittany Harris put in 14, Oulaymatou Coulibaly added 12. Other scorers for the Belles: Cherrell Price 8, Jalissa Council 7, Maraea Kelemete 4, Durriyyah Drummond 3.

SEMINOLE, Oklahoma - The Seminole State Trojans' defeat came in a conference match up against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, 82-54. "It's frustrating for us to play games and execute so little of what we practice every day," said Head Coach Thomas Mills. Fourteen turnovers in the firth half combined with shooting only 30% from the floor forced Seminole State into a 15 point halftime deficit. NEO shot 46% from the floor and went 4 for 9 from behind the arc. The second half saw similar results for both teams. The Trojans continued to struggle to finish plays around the basket and shot only 30% from the floor for the game. NEO converted 18 of 27 field goals in the second half and outscored SSC by 13 to give them the 82-54 victory.

SEMINOLE, Oklahoma - The Seminole State College Belles pulled within six points going in the second half, but that's as close as they could get to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M during basketball action on Thursday. Despite the Belles' efforts, they ultimately fell 62-53. "This was a disappointing loss," said Head Coach Rita Story-Schell. "NEO played with intensity for the entire game." Despite the tough defense, leading scorer Oulaymatou Coulibaly was still able to lead the Belles offense as she scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for her second double-double in two games. Fellow sophomores, Brittany Harris and Jaquitta Dever, also played big roles in the Belles' losing efforts. Harris scored 11 points and Dever added 9. Other Belles scoring were Jalissa Council with 6, Cherrell Price 5, Danara Day 4 and Tiarra Dewberry with three.

EL RENO, Oklahoma - The Seminole State College Belles brought home another win after defeating Redlands Community College Cougars 60-46. The Belles record is 12-3 overall and 6-1 in conference.

The Belles were up 10 points at half and continued the frenzy until the final buzzer to bring home the win. Oulaymatou Coulibaly had a double double with 18 points and brought down the boards with 12 rebounds. Tiarra Dewberry hit three tres for the night.

EL RENO, Oklahoma - The SSC Trojans defeated the Redlands Community College Cougars on Monday night at the Cougar Fieldhouse in overtime 89-86.The Trojans are now 6-11 for the season and 4-3 in conference.

"I am genuinely proud of the character we displayed last night in a tough road environment against a very talented and athletic team. We managed to hang in there battling a ten to sixteen point deficit for most of the game," said SSC men's head coach Dr. Tom Mills. "We were able to chip away and get the win because everybody that had a chance to stepped up and made play after play, especially Kendall Parks, Chase Mongold, and Darius Bryson. This is a particularly gratifying win for us having not responded in this fashion in similar situations more than once this season."
