The Seminole State women's tennis team recently competed in the 2013 Women's NJCAA National Championships in Tucson, Arizona. After five long days of play, SSC finished 11th nationally.
The highlight of the week was a semi-final finish at #2 singles for Shawnee-Ann Brelsford, dropping a close 7-6; 6-3 match to the eventual Flight #2 champion from Georgia Perimeter. Brelsford and doubles parter Helga Pinones-Haltenhoff also teamed up to make the quarter-finals, losing to Tyler Jr. College in a close three set match. TJC went on to win the flight #1 doubles draw with rather easy wins in the semi's and finals after beating SSC.
During the 2012-2013 season, the Lady Trojans gained their highest ever team National Ranking of #5 in NJCAA. Four out of the top six players return next year, Helga Pinones-Haltenhoff, Shawnee-Ann Brelsford, Hannah Tomlinson, and Ashley Bryen.
