NJCAA Announces Winners of 2012-2013 Academic Awards; Five SSC Student-Athletes and one team receive awards

NJCAA Headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado, today released the names of the 2012-2013 NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards as well as the NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year.

 

Over 1,600 NJCAA student-athletes met the requirements for individual academic honors, including 169 that earned the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence (4.0 GPA). Superior Academic Achievement (3.8+ GPA) honors went to 592 student-athletes and over 900 met the standard for Exemplary Academic Achievement (3.6+ GPA). 

Academic team accolades (3.0+ team GPA) were earned by over 500 programs with 24 winning the distinction as the Academic Teams of the Year.

SSC also had one team that received the Academic team accolade; combining for a  3.35 overall GPA was the Women's Tennis team. Team members include:

 

Helga Pinones-Haltenhoff, Shawnee-Ann Brelsford, Kirby Shannon, Krystal Morris, Ashley Bryen, Hannah Tomlinson, and Haley Pope.

Four Seminole State College baseball players were recently chosen in the 2013 Major League Baseball draft this past weekend. Leading the way was Teddy Stankiewicz, who was chosen 45th overall to the Boston Red Sox. Also selected was William (Caleb) Simpson in the 21st round to the San Francisco Giants, Jorge Perez in the 30th round to the Houston Astros, and Ty Williams in the 35th round to the New York Mets.

Kevin Hill

Kevin Hill, a Sophomore from Tecumseh, Oklahoma, was named to the 2013 NJCAA All-American Second Team on Wednesday. Hill had a strong campaign during the 2012-2013 season, finishing 6-2 overall with a 2.28 era.
